PROGRAM DETAILS

PAʻI Foundation, with major support from the Kamehameha Schools, is pleased to launch the Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke program as part of the ʻŌiwi Leadership Fund to support Native Hawaiian artists, cultural bearers and cultural practitioners who are 18+ years of age and residents of Hawaiʻi.

USE OF FUNDS

Grants awarded up to $2,500.

Most awards range between $1000 - $1,500.

Funds should support cultural learning in the form of tuition/fees for classes, supplies, equipment, tools and/or instruments deemed necessary for development in the practice.

*Awards may be disbursed to the kumu or to the haumāna at the discretion of the kumu. Awardees may be asked for receipts and to complete a survey about usage of funds at the end of the program.

  • APPROVED USAGE OF FUNDS:

    • Tuition for up to 12 months
    • Fees for up to 12 months
    • Kumu or haumāna purchased supplies/equipment (i.e., wood for carving, fabrics for costumes, feathers for hulu, etc.)
  • UNAPPROVED USAGE OF FUNDS:

    • Payments of debts, credit cards, loans, or other financial responsibilities.
    • Personal expenses, such as haumāna rent, or utilities not related to practice.
    • Purchases made prior to the award of the grant.

If you are a kumu, submit an application as normal.

If you are haumana, please submit a recommendation form in addition to your application, filled out by your kumu.
