Join hulu (feather) master, Kawika Lum-Nelmida, for a hands-on Lei Hulu Making Class where you'll learn the ancient Hawaiian art of crafting kāhili paʻa lima (feathered hand-held kāhili)! In this fun and creative class, you'll be guided through the entire process, from selecting and preparing vibrant pheasant feathers to assembling them to create your own lei hulu. Lum-Nelmida will share tips, techniques, and cultural insights that will deepen your knowledge for this unique art form.

Kāhili Paʻa Lima are small hand-held kāhili that were carried by ali‘i or by members of their court. Hand-held kāhili are variable in form and appearance and uses longer feathers compared to lei hulu. Today, hand-held kāhili are given as gifts or awards, or sometimes used as decorative furnishings.
