ABOUT PAPA
Please be sure to select the correct style of lei of your choice before completing payment! If the style you are interested in creating is unavailable, please contact us at info@paifoundation.org.
Join hulu (feather) master, Kawika Lum-Nelmida, for a hands-on Contemporary Papa Lei Hulu where you'll be able to choose from ONE of the three contemporary styles of crafting lei hulu (feathered lei)! In this fun and creative class, you'll be guided through the entire process, from selecting and preparing vibrant pheasant feathers to assembling them to create your own lei hulu. Lum-Nelmida will share tips, techniques, and cultural insights that will deepen your knowledge for this unique art form.
Students will be choosing one of the following styles of lei hulu to craft, Lokelani (represents rosebuds), Hala (represents Pandanus fruit), or Maunaloa (represents Pea blossom). These Lei Hulu styles utilize techniques of both Lei Hulu Poepoe and Kamoe in combination with modern materials to create representations of flower lei.
