Painting with Brook Parker II

Join artist Brook Parker for a creative painting workshop inspired by the ihe, the spear used by koa (warriors). This guided session invites participants of all skill levels to explore color, form, and cultural inspiration in a relaxed, supportive environment. Each session will start with a talk story session with Brook, and he will give a little history and moʻolelo (story) about the subject of the painting.

Participants will paint their own ihe on an 11" x 14" canvas, learning basic painting techniques and composition along the way. All materials are provided.

This workshop is the first in a series of four. If attendees attend all workshops, they will walk away with a quadriptych/tetraptych. 

ABOUT BROOK PARKER

Brook Kapūkuniahi Parker, a distinguished kānaka maoli multidisciplinary artist, historian, and genealogist, emerges from the rich soil of Wailau, Kahaluʻu, Oʻahu, deep-rooted in Hawaiʻi's vibrant history. 

Brook's artistic mastery spans various mediums, including oil and acrylic paintings, as well as intricate pen and ink drawings. These creations are imbued with the essence of Hawaiian history, a testament to his expertise as a Hawaiian historian and lecturer. His specialty lies in the portrayal of the Kū, capturing the essence of masculine warriors in battle scenes and regal kings. His journey began with a masterpiece featuring the Hawaiian Coat of Arms, spotlighting Kameʻeiamoku and Kamanawa, royal counselors and uncles to King Kamehameha I.
